overexposed
It’s been too long since I posted an outfit on Mode and the Like. Even though these photos were taken at the end of April on a too bright, too windy day, I really felt the urge to upload them. The weather wasn’t quite cooperating at my cousin’s (white attire!) wedding in Oakland, but I jumped at the chance to hopefully post something up on this here blog, so there you go.

out and about
Let me just start by saying that I can’t believe this beautiful San Francisco weather we’re having. It’s refreshing to see sunny skies follow days of thunder, lightning, and pouring rain (even though I was enjoying the storm). Yesterday the weather was particularly divine, and since I was in desperate need of some creative fuel my boyfriend Ben and I headed over to North Beach. We first stopped off at one of my favorite stores, Artist and Craftsman Supply, where I picked up a pack of Shizen Design papers for collaging. The packs include a pound of random sheets, all with beautiful designs, colors, and textures. I’m especially fond of their velvet flocked damask papers.
After the necessary shopping trip, Ben and I took a late lunch at Gott’s in the Ferry Building. To our amusement, we overheard some fellow patrons comment on our activities (“He’s taking pictures of her…”) and we shared equally audible remarks (“They’re talking about us…”). On our way home, we stumbled across a wonderful surprise: a food stand on Market and Sutter called The Creme Brûlée Cart. It only took us a split second to decide on the “Yes Please!”—strawberries and Nutella creme brûlée—and it ended the day on a deliciously sweet note.
but you’re not really here, it’s just the radio
For me today was all about the heavy fog turned sunshine, grilled cheese, Mission Street’s beautiful St. Patrick Church, and the Carpenters. Lunch at The Melt definitely made my day ten times better, but sixties and seventies tunes were the real key. As for my outfit, I was sort of going for an understated grunge feel. And I finally wore my cage necklace! That really made me feel accomplished.
saturated lips and street art
The possibility of rain could not dampen my sense of adventure today. After a quick errand this morning, my boyfriend and I discovered some lovely painted walls down Austin Street, between Polk and Van Ness. After exploring the many boutiques on Polk (one of my favorite things to do in the city), we lunched in a Chinese restaurant and escaped a heavy downpour of rain.
It felt good dressing a little more formal today, basing the “business casual” ensemble around my never-before-worn Tucker for Target top. I’d had it for over a year, so it seemed about time I pulled it out of the closet. Though I’m not crazy about the print, I love the color combo of pink, periwinkle, and dark royal blue, and I feel it works best with a heavy dose of black. I’m also adoring this girlie-looking lipstick; it’s so amazing how easily makeup can change your look depending on color and texture.
