dripping in jewel tones

Yesterday morning I took an early trip to Whole Foods and in the midst of searching for produce and poultry I somehow wound up in the beauty aisle (go figure). Amongst all the organic beauty products I spotted a rainbow of Zoya nail polishes and was instantly drawn to the eye-catching display. After staring at the bottles for what seemed like forever, I finally chose the blue violet Pinta and the sparkly teal Akyra.

I’d never tried Zoya before, and I found the dried consistency pleasantly sleek and slippery. Akyra is a bit sheerer than I expected but Pinta went on perfectly with a few swipes. I’ve been attracted to these opulent hues since December when I asked for a tube of Illamasqua lipstick in Kontrol for Christmas. I recently donned it at my new job, eliciting more bewildered stares than compliments. (I wouldn’t always recommend it for day to day wear.) Others’ opinions notwithstanding, Kontrol delivers a dramatic and satisfyingly creamy layer of pigment. I can’t wait to try more unconventional colors (Apocalips anyone?), and with my latest obsession of reading beauty blogs I’m looking forward to posting in-depth reviews of products new and beloved alike.

PS: Thanks to everyone who has stuck with Mode and the Like through my dry spell. More posts to come soon! :)
