madewell made my month
Standing in line for an hour and a half, just to be one of the first people into a store, is not something that I would usually do. But when it’s someone special, for something special, I get a little excited.
I learned last week that Alexa Chung would be in town for her Madewell collaboration launch party. The fact that she chose to grace the San Francisco location with her presence is unexpected, but incredibly appreciated (LA and NY usually have all the fun). All attendees were greeted with gratuitous cookies, candy bars, drinks, and palm tree manicures. Alexa graciously shook hands, signed autographs, and posed for pictures; though I felt starstruck, I leaped at the chance to have my photo taken with her.
The model and talk-show host turned designer arrived in three of her Madewell creations: the Bin Man coat (still contemplating getting it), the Penny Dress, and the Zowie Leopard Booties. Though Alexa’s pieces worked beautifully together, I found her tortoiseshell Scottie dog pin especially charming. Alexa’s friend, DJ Tennessee Thomas (who floated around in the Dolores Dress), played oldies and other tunes in the front corner, while photographers and shoppers swarmed the store.
Though I love the whole collection, I went in thinking I wouldn’t buy anything. But in the heat of the moment I ended up grabbing the Graham Crewneck Sweater in powder blue, the Aimee Fisherman-Knit Sweater, and the Sketchbook Tee in the evil eye print. You will hopefully see me wearing these pieces when the fog rolls in and the weather cools down a bit. I desperately want to return for the Cora Dotted Shirt, and since I’m in search of a dress for Glamorama this month, perhaps the Carine Dress (looks great in both the burnt sienna and siberian red) as well.
Continue for more photos of the event and storefront, and the palm tree manicures my friends and I got!
