crazy for navy & fragrant tea

Well it’s been a long long while since any photos of myself actually surfaced on Mode and the Like, so I thought it was time to bring the camera along today when my boyfriend and I visited Leland Tea Co. on Bush and Polk. I’d never been in before but had passed it frequently on buses and decided to finally give the quaint little café a try. Ben and I had small sandwiches and a pot of the Blue Eyes, a blend with hibiscus flowers, rose hips, apple pieces and orange. It was floral and fruity and absolutely delicious. When purchasing some tea of my own however I opted for Jasmine Fancy, since it smelled fresh and divine and green tea is life.

I was very excited to wear my new Surface to Air sandals this afternoon since I got them at Jeremy’s for $50 (a steal considering they were in perfect condition and originally a cool $460). I’ve never been a big fan of navy blue, but after buying this amazing Bar III sweater in Hawaii (the back detail is a unique touch) and then the shoes I’m officially sold. Navy is the new black. I love the contrast with my turquoise-going-on-kelly-green jeans and I’ll definitely be playing around with more fun color combinations in the near future.

seeing spots

I’m seeing spots… and not just any spots: leopard-print! I hauled out one of my favorite sweaters today for a chilly walk around Union Square; sadly it was not quite warm enough, but of course I did choose to pair it with shorts and thin tights. It seems like the cold spell is just beginning, and it may be time to put the shorts in the back of the drawer until spring. I was mostly interested in testing out my new beautiful wool headband today (which I styled the outfit around), and I believe that it will be a regular winter staple from now on. For anyone who’s interested but possibly not fond of the burgundy color (gasp!) the lovely thing also comes in grey.

bits and baubles

Despite yesterday’s chilly (and eventually rainy) weather, my friend Pilar and I wandered up Fillmore Street for a fun little adventure since we hadn’t caught up in forever. With some birthday money in hand I made a beeline for a few of my favorite stores like Alexis Bittar, Juicy News, and Marc by Marc Jacobs.  I practically died when I finally purchased the (SEVEN DOLLAR!) Marc Jacobs heart compact, something I’ve been wanting for a very long time.

Exploring also led to a few new gems like Nest, Heidi Says Collections, and Heidi Says Casual. I’m so excited by all the pretty things I snatched up, as well as some of my birthday gifts from last month that I never shared (like the religious bracelet, above, given to me by my best friend). It seems like I’m on a colorful jewelry streak lately… but aren’t I always?
