café run

My man and I went out yesterday for a late breakfast at B Patisserie, arguably the best café/bakery around. The ham, bacon, and swiss quiche was très yums, and their sweet treats are always amazing. Also, new skirt! You like?

hawai’i nei

Beloved Hawai’i. I just returned from an eleven-day stay on O’ahu, and I can’t believe it’s already over. Most of the time it was too hot and humid to even attempt to look nice, but when my mother and I scheduled dinner for Roy’s one night I knew I had to stow away the shorts and dress up a bit.

overexposed

It’s been too long since I posted an outfit on Mode and the Like. Even though these photos were taken at the end of April on a too bright, too windy day, I really felt the urge to upload them. The weather wasn’t quite cooperating at my cousin’s (white attire!) wedding in Oakland, but I jumped at the chance to hopefully post something up on this here blog, so there you go.

crazy for navy & fragrant tea

Well it’s been a long long while since any photos of myself actually surfaced on Mode and the Like, so I thought it was time to bring the camera along today when my boyfriend and I visited Leland Tea Co. on Bush and Polk. I’d never been in before but had passed it frequently on buses and decided to finally give the quaint little café a try. Ben and I had small sandwiches and a pot of the Blue Eyes, a blend with hibiscus flowers, rose hips, apple pieces and orange. It was floral and fruity and absolutely delicious. When purchasing some tea of my own however I opted for Jasmine Fancy, since it smelled fresh and divine and green tea is life.

I was very excited to wear my new Surface to Air sandals this afternoon since I got them at Jeremy’s for $50 (a steal considering they were in perfect condition and originally a cool $460). I’ve never been a big fan of navy blue, but after buying this amazing Bar III sweater in Hawaii (the back detail is a unique touch) and then the shoes I’m officially sold. Navy is the new black. I love the contrast with my turquoise-going-on-kelly-green jeans and I’ll definitely be playing around with more fun color combinations in the near future.

one last hurrah

School starts once again on Monday, so I’ve been trying to take advantage of my precious time by seeing The Artist; hitting up Fillmore Street for some organic froyo from Fraîche and pretty paper purchases; and catching up with friends. Winter break was not long enough in my opinion, though I did find myself a bit uninspired. I read magazines and watched Friends reruns, but couldn’t find it in me to write a blog post or pick up a marker to sketch. Now that I’ve returned to the city, however, I have BIG plans to get Mode and the Like back on its feet (and better than ever!).

On another note, I wholly recommend The Artist to all old- (and new-) movie lovers. Its antiqued approach to the development of films (from silent to talkies) is far from outdated, and will keep you satisfied the whole way through with its ’20s sets, crisp and glittering costumes, and stylized scenes.
