best of fillmore beauty mini haul (+ some glossier goodies)

Best of Fillmore Beauty Mini Haul 1

The reason I love speciality beauty stores like Sephora and Ulta is because you can find everything you want in one place. I have the pleasure of living near Fillmore Street in San Francisco, so if you’ve got time to peruse the seven blocks that hold Aesop, Le Labo, Benefit Cosmetics, L’Occitane en Provence, Atelier Cologne, Credo Beauty, MAC, SpaceNK, Kiehl’s, NARS, and Walgreen’s, then you’re basically smack dab in a cosmetic wonderland. When the weekend rolls around I’m usually too lazy to do much of anything, but if I need to get my beauty fix I don’t have far to go. This morning—though it was very tempting—I decided against being a hermit and made my way to Benefit, MAC, and Kiehl’s.

aesop parsley seed facial cleanser

Aesop Parsley Seed Facial Cleanser

This past year my acne has been a little out of control. I wash my face twice a day, so it likely has to do with diet (I have the biggest sweet tooth). But whatever the cause, I’m on a personal mission to lock it down, so my recent beauty buys have all been skincare-related. If I can’t kick my sugar habit, I can at least battle this acne on the home front, right?

I think I’ll do a roundup of my all-time favorite cleansers in the near future, but currently I’m obsessed with the Aesop Parsley Seed Facial Cleanser. I’ve got combination skin—oily nose, normal to dry skin on the rest of my face—so the fine folks at the Aesop Fillmore location recommended the Parsley Seed Facial Cleanser.

who cares about “beauty” anyway?

modeandthelike_whocares

In the last few months, I’ve become beauty-obsessed. I’ve scoured the aisles of Target and Sephora; I’ve scrutinized sites like Into The Gloss, From Roses, and Byrdie; I’ve covered my dresser drawers in moisturizers, lip balms, and highlighters. I’ve learned a lot about the beauty landscape in a short amount of time, and I’ve discovered a bunch of new products that I’d love to write about here. But before I do that, I’m going to share some thoughts on “beauty” with you.

summer favorites

modeandthelikebeautyroundup1

Well well well… it certainly has been awhile (months and months!), but I’ll spare you the apologies and promises and get right down to it. I’m always perfecting my beauty routine, and with summer wrapping up I thought I’d share a few of my recent and longstanding favorites. I can’t get enough of Benefit’s Instant Brow Pencil in Deep… I’ve been thinking about filling in my brows forever and the shade is perfect—not overpowering, not muddy, not too light. I also just discovered both Elizabeth and James Nirvana perfumes, the Olsen twins’ first fragrance, and I definitely can’t choose between the two. The scents actually complement each other well, so I’ve taken to mixing them. And I know what you’re thinking… Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Poe is more of a fall/winter pick for sure, but I fell in love with it at Sephora and can’t wait to pick up a tube for myself (they were sold out, understandably so!). Also, I just found out that my favorite blush by Urban Decay is no longer being sold/made… I’ll have to cherish every last swipe of mine.

Nail Polish in Stun / Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Poe / Urban Decay Afterglow Glide-On Cheek Tint in Crush / Diorshow Iconic Mascara)

for the love of lime crime

When I returned from Honolulu last Sunday, I had almost forgotten that I ordered a few new goodies from Lime Crime before my trip! Velvetines in Red Velvet and Suedeberry, nail polish in Milky Ways, and a Chincilla lipstick were all wrapped up in this pretty little package. Upon opening the box, I promptly painted my nails and tried on all the new lipsticks (it was almost a shame to throw away the boxes… they’re adorable!). Almost a year ago I purchased Mint to Be (mint), No She Didn’t (blue), and Styletto (black) for kicks, but I’ve never donned them in public. Retrofuturist is another story, however, and as you can see from its stubby height, I use it on a regular basis. Instead of reordering Retrofuturist this time around I decided to test out Lime Crime’s Velvetines, which are incredibly lightweight and smooth. I can tell they’ll be in heavy rotation from now on!
