The reason I love speciality beauty stores like Sephora and Ulta is because you can find everything you want in one place. I have the pleasure of living near Fillmore Street in San Francisco, so if you’ve got time to peruse the seven blocks that hold Aesop, Le Labo, Benefit Cosmetics, L’Occitane en Provence, Atelier Cologne, Credo Beauty, MAC, SpaceNK, Kiehl’s, NARS, and Walgreen’s, then you’re basically smack dab in a cosmetic wonderland. When the weekend rolls around I’m usually too lazy to do much of anything, but if I need to get my beauty fix I don’t have far to go. This morning—though it was very tempting—I decided against being a hermit and made my way to Benefit, MAC, and Kiehl’s.
Lucky for me, Benefit was having a special promotion (get a signature service plus two products and you’ll receive one product at 50% off… I think it’s going on for the rest of October). I wanted to finally purchase some of their new brow products, and picked up the Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel in 5 and the Precisely, My Brow Pencil Ultra Fine Shape & Define in 6 per an employee’s recommendation. I like to keep my brows shaped and filled but natural-looking, and she suggested I tame them with the gel and then fill in any patches with the brow pencil. I’ve always wanted to try Benefit’s skincare products (the packaging is adorable) and grabbed their Instant Comeback Facial Serum, since currently I don’t use any serums.
A few months ago I was using up some Kiehl’s samples and fell in love with the Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque. As most masks do, it tightened up my skin, but it also mattified and softened it. I actually popped into the store to test out the trendy Cactus Flower & Tibetan Ginseng Hydrating Mist, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the overwhelming lavender scent and ended up with only the mask.
Finally, I visited MAC for a product that I haven’t used in five or six years: the Pro Longwear Fluidline Eyeliner in Blacktrack. I’m not sure if this is the exact product I once owned, but back when I was a fashion journalism student, this was the only eyeliner I used. Photographs from that time show me with a nearly-perfect cat eye, and I thought it was a great time to try introducing the brush and eyeliner pot method back into my daily regimen.
I also recently received some goodies from Glossier in the mail, so I thought I’d include those in this post. Glossier’s Boy Brow is a great quick fix for brows. If you needed to leave the house ten minutes ago and left your brows for last, it’s a great swipe-and-go product. I’m obsessed with Glossier’s Generation G Sheer Matte Lipsticks, and especially love their newest shades, Zip (a poppy red) and Leo (a grungy light brown). They deliver a fair dose of pigment and don’t dry out your lips at all. Glossier’s mask game is on point as well; their Moisturizing Moon Mask feels more like a thick night cream, and gave my skin a much-needed boost of hydration. They recommend following the Mega Greens Galaxy Pack with the Moon Mask, and I’m excited to try out that combination soon.
I would love to do a proper haul and visit all of the aforementioned stores in one go, but my bank account would quickly go negative. Expect a bigger “Best of Fillmore Beauty” haul in the future, though! Thanks for reading and excuse my many hiatuses. 😉
